Hitachi’s Path to a Carbon-Free Future: Finding Practical Solutions Together

As industries prioritize sustainability, Hitachi is creating technologies to lower emissions and boost efficiency. From raw material sourcing to production and delivery, every stage is evaluated to reduce environmental impact.

With a goal of achieving carbon neutrality across its entire value chain by 2050, Hitachi prioritizes sustainable, emission-free solutions. However, it’s not just about eco-friendly products – it’s also about collaborating with partners and customers to achieve shared sustainability goals. Through collaboration and alignment, Hitachi helps stakeholders make meaningful strides toward a greener future, turning the journey to carbon neutrality into a collective effort.

A good example is the Sullair* E1035H electric portable air compressor, which is powered completely by electricity, reducing carbon footprint and providing unmatched versatility without compromising reliability or performance.

Benefits of Electric Portable Air Compressors

More and more businesses are putting increased emphasis on sustainability and looking for greener solutions. The market and regulations are trending electric and reducing carbon footprint is only one of the many benefits electric portable air compressors can provide.

Electric portable air compressors have longer maintenance intervals, eliminate fuel costs, and provide increased versatility because they can be used for both indoor and outdoor applications.

Addressing Market Needs with the E1035H

The Sullair E1035H Portable Electric Air Compressor was developed through a collaboration between Hitachi Global Air Power and Ring Power, a partner with extensive experience in the compressed air industry. According to Roger Adkins, Vice President and Air Compressor Sales Business Manager at Ring Power, the team saw a need for an updated compressor model that met both changing customer needs and evolving environmental regulations.

The E1035H features exclusive Sullair Electronic Spiral Valve Technology which helps match air supply to demand. This helps increase efficiency and provides 60% turndown—meaning the flow range capacity can be programmed from 414 to 1035 cfm or anywhere in between. Fully electric operation significantly reduces CO2 emissions and allows use both indoors and outdoors.

No detail has been overlooked in the E1035H making it an appealing option for both rental houses and end users alike.

Collaborative Innovation

The E1035H design reflects the combined input of both teams as the collaborative process brought together the engineering expertise and innovation of Hitachi Global Air Power with the practical insights of the Ring Power rental and service teams. Ring Power contributed a prototype that included features like swing-out coolers, auto-greasers, and a layout that enhances operator safety.

“We focused on incorporating features that we knew would tackle common issues in the rental market,” Adkins said. Hitachi Global Air Power’s engineering team then refined the design to ensure it could serve a broad range of customers and adapt to future industry shifts.

Safe Design

In addition to efficiency, safety is a top priority. Camlock electrical connections are safely spaced from the control panel and the air discharge is located on the opposite side of user controls. The discharge location allows the entire compressor to create a barrier between the user should a loose hose hazard arise.

“Traditional designs can be tough to access and pose safety risks,” said Sarah Dickie, Marketing Liaison at Ring Power. “We wanted to address these concerns and create a product that is both practical and safe.”

Smart Management with IoT Capabilities

The E1035H also includes built-in Internet of Things (IoT) features for real-time monitoring and diagnostics, allowing users to track performance and anticipate maintenance needs. Built-in telematics track performance, send service alerts, and update GPS location for geofencing and loss prevention. This reduces breakdown risks, optimizes efficiency, and improves safety, making the E1035H a valuable investment for streamlining operations and cutting costs.

According to Jerel Cole, the E1035H Product Manager at Hitachi Global Air Power US, the IoT system can send alerts directly to technicians about upcoming service requirements, reducing the risk of unexpected issues.

“We can now provide up-to-date information on compressor status and send maintenance reminders,” Cole said. This feature is especially useful for rental fleets that rely on keeping equipment up and running as much as possible.

Expanding Electric Options

The E1035H is just one step in our broader strategy to expand our electric equipment line. John Randall, President & CEO of Hitachi Global Air Power US, explained that the company plans to roll out additional electric compressor models for a variety of applications. The goal is to create a complete portfolio that includes both oil-flooded and oil-free compressors.

“Our focus is on building products that meet not only current needs but also future demands,” Randall said. This aligns with Hitachi’s mission to offer more sustainable options for industries that depend on compressed air technology.

Partnering for Better Solutions

The collaboration between Hitachi Global Air Power and Ring Power highlights the value of partnerships in developing solutions that meet real-world needs. The two companies combined their expertise to create a product that addresses both changing market needs and environmental considerations.

“Working together allowed us to create something that benefits not just our businesses but also our customers and the broader community,” Adkins said. “The E1035H shows what we can achieve when we focus on solving the issues that matter.”

Building Toward a Carbon-Free Future

Hitachi’s broader vision is to support the shift to a carbon-free world by developing practical solutions that make sustainability more accessible. Hitachi Global Air Power aims to build on the success of the E1035H and expand the product line to help customers achieve their sustainability goals.

“This is just a step in the right direction,” Randall concluded. “We’re committed to innovation that helps our customers operate more sustainably without compromising performance or safety.”

By finding practical ways to blend sustainability and usability, Hitachi is thinking green from the ground up to create a cleaner, more efficient future.
