Re-Imagining India’s Role in Fueling a Green Future

Green Energy Future Solar Power Project

India’s magnificent increase in the world GDP share is an assured sign of the nation’s widening influence and presence in the global economic and industrial arena. Supported by the Government’s progressive policies that aim at comprehensive and sustainable growth with digital as the pivot, the transformation is swift and indubitable.

Energy prerequisites are continually ascending in India, as the nation pursues aggressive designs to be among the world's key developing economies. India has the second highest populace. These variables necessitate the need to assist in combating the nation's air quality issue.

Hitachi India, with its extraordinary ensemble of OT x IT entwined solutions is a peerless partner to the Government’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat or Self-reliant India vision. The Kamuthi project features five photovoltaic (PV) plants and is one of the world’s largest and distinctive. This project exemplifies Hitachi Energy’s end-to-end power and automation system integration capabilities and reinforces its commitment to the renewable energy sector.

Aligned to India’s vision of achieving 100 GW of Solar Power by 20223, the project is a stellar example of Hitachi’s commitment to establish the country as a renewable energy major in the global green energy landscape. Thereby, addressing the urgent concerns of global warming and perishing natural resources.

The project’s scope included the design, supply, installation and commissioning of solar plant electrification and automation systems. This included two 230 kilovolt (kV) and three 110 kV outdoor switchyards to connect to the local transmission grid. Power and automation equipment from Hitachi Energy included supply and control relay panels, circuit breakers, current transformers, capacitor voltage transformers, protection systems, fibre optic telecommunication equipment, investors and power transformers.

The project was completed in a record time of six months. It involved a high level of sophistication in project management and coordination, right from the engineering stage through to the execution on site. An optimised design was created with a common layout for all the substations, for ease of execution. Multiple teams were deputed to work simultaneously, and as work continued round the clock, a high degree of safety measures was implemented.

Hitachi Energy is already making waves in India with commissioning of the world’s first multi-terminal North-East to Agra Ultra High Voltage Direct Current (UHVDC) transmission link that is bringing clean and renewable Hydropower to millions. Even its 1,800-kilometer long UHVDC transmission link for Power Corporation of India Limited will benefit nearly 80 million people with heightened access to clean and reliable power. Congruently, Hitachi Energy is helping speed up electrification of Indian Railways, one of the largest networks in the world.

Undoubtedly, the addition of these global leaders will bolster the group’s efforts to accomplish the Government’s vision of a Green, prosperous India. Taking a leap further, the amalgamation will also boost Hitachi India’s technological capabilities to leverage its vast experience in transforming a highly complex and varied canvas like India to address global demand for climate resistant technologies. Thus, build an ecologically and economically thriving and sustainable world, for now and the future.
