Rihand Dadri High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) System: India’s first commercial long-distance HVDC link

Originally commissioned in 1990, the link pumps power from Rihand to Dadri of about 1,500 MW covering 814 kms.

Strengthening India’s power infrastructure, Hitachi Energy upgraded the HVDC link with state-of-the-art technologies, including its advanced MACH™ (Modular Advanced Control for HVDC) Control and Protection system, to bring resilience and flexibility to the network, secure reliable power for 19 million people in Delhi, NCR, and Punjab, and integrate renewables for a greener grid.
