Taking to Singapore’s top shopping, dining and entertainment street with energy-saving LED white lights, a total of 104 trees and 171 lamp posts lit Orchard Road on Saturday, 12 November 2022. Circled around a carnival-themed light-up, the bustling stretch of Orchard Road will see a takeover of key element designs such as carousels, hot air balloons, and Ferris wheels.
Kickstarting this year’s Light-Up Ceremony and gracing the event with her attendance as the guest-of-honour was Singapore’s President Halimah Yacob. In partnership with Community Chest , this year's Light-Up Ceremony marks the return of a full-scale program comeback where locals and tourists can immerse themselves in the festivities missed out over the last two years since the onset of COVID-19.
The ceremony was also attended in person by Executive Chairman of Hitachi, Ltd., Mr. Toshiaki Higashihara. Sharing with the crowd his joy in Hitachi's efforts thus far on social innovation and sustainability, he added on hoping that the Christmas Light-Up will continue bringing communities together and encourage people to power good in society.
Empowering Society Together
Holding close to its value of Powering Good, it is with immense pride for Hitachi as it returns as the main sponsor of the Christmas Light-up for the 32nd year running. A token of goodwill by the Hitachi Group in Singapore donated SGD220,000 to social services within the purview of Community Chest.
Hitachi is dedicated to empowering society together through fundraising for the Christmas Light-Up event that resonates with us to power good from within.
We thank our group of companies once again, for their contributions in 2022:
As the glistening lights sparked down the road of Orchard Road, residents from All Saints Home were cordially invited onboard an open bus tour after the light-up ceremony. Wearing smiles on their faces, it served as a great reminder to Hitachi employees on the importance of continuing to serve the community through our vision of Powering Good.
In the line-up to the Christmas Light-Up Ceremony 2022, over 30 Hitachi volunteers came together as 'One Hitachi' for Hitachi Plays Santa 2022. Themed ‘Build-a-Wheelchair’, volunteers gathered with the primary goal of building wheelchairs for the aged residents of All Saints Home @ Hougang.
Hitachi Plays Santa 2022 witnessed over 150 Hitachi employees from 15 Hitachi Group of Companies (GoCs) in Singapore come together to donate, as well as to build wheelchairs for our selected beneficiary. In total, 25 wheelchairs and a token sum of SGD6,339 were donated to All Saints Home @ Hougang.
When asked about their motivating factor to volunteer, volunteers shared that it is a meaningful way to contribute back to society, given the efforts put in by our forefathers and pioneers in laying down the foundation of our country.
As the festive year-end season draws near, may Hitachi’s vision of powering good be kept close to our hearts as we continue to develop a sustainable, safe and resilient environment as One Hitachi.
