Bringing New-Age Learning to India's Remotest Corners

Digital Transformation in Education Digital Technologies in Education

If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s we rob them of tomorrow

- John Dewey

Education is a fundamental right of every child, the cornerstone of building an inclusive and equitable society where every child has the opportunity to dream, thrive, and contribute to the nation.

Driven by the New Education Policy 20201, the Government of India is committed towards reorienting the education system towards meeting 21st century needs and leveraging the latest digital technologies to ensure the system benefits all children, even in remote areas such as Ladakh, where access to quality education has been a challenge due to the lack of infrastructure and resources.

As a powerful catalyst in achieving holistic, inclusive education, digital technologies are giving students unprecedented access to learning opportunities, making learning collaborative and engaging, and giving students the tools and knowledge they need to shape their own future and break the cycle of poverty and underdevelopment.

Hitachi India, an integral partner in India’s sustainable growth, is positioning itself as a leading collaborator in the digital transformation of the education sector, and is powering a better future by enabling access to quality education. As a testimony to this, Hitachi MGRM Net, a Hitachi Group Company, collaborated with the Directorate of School Education, Ladakh, to digitally transform the entire education ecosystem in the remote Union Territory (UT), keeping the student at the centre of this metamorphosis.

Hitachi MGRM Net is providing its robust ICT-enabled M-StarTM Applications encompassing school expert system, school management system, analytics, and digital learning platform which is all set to benefit 25,000 students in 850 Government and 200 Private Schools.

M-StarTM - Revolutionizing the Education System by Breaking Silos, Bringing Cohesiveness

Setting a robust foundation for transparency and accountability in the education system, the M-StarTM Applications integrate all academic and administrative divisions within educational institutions across the state to establish a data-rich educational database that can be securely accessed by authorities across multiple decision-making levels to identify problems at the grassroot. The single source of truth architecture and near real-time information for decision making and monitoring enabled by Hitachi’s platform facilitates the Central and State Governments in extending relevant schemes, benefits, and policies that benefit all stakeholders, especially the students who are at the centre of the ecosystem.

With this cohesive platform every stakeholder can track the physical, mental, and academic progress of every child in Ladakh from birth to their higher education. Dashboards along with Analytics are available at each level to facilitate this.

Transforming Education e-Governance with M-starTM Applications

Cloud-Based Learning Platform
  • 2-way dissemination of information-
    bottom-up and top-down
  • One single educational database
    encompassing all stakeholders
    in the school
  • Entire student lifecycle in the institute (i.e. multi-year) in a single database
Cloud-Based Learning Solutions
  • Common Analytics even for the remotest location
  • Single Source of Truth Architecture and near real-time information
  • Seamless reporting system for all statutory and regulatory compliances
  • Dashboard available for all in the value chain

The platform integrates the Government Bodies (Ministry, State Education Depts., District, Block and Village Education Officers) with the Educational Institution (School, College, University, etc.) on one hand and the Public (students, teachers, alumni, management and parents) on the other.

Hitachi’s educational e-Governance platform can be integrated with the birth registration database, Anganwadi centres, parents, and health department to track students’ overall progress on various aspects. The cohesiveness ushered hence ensures that education serves as the bedrock of nation building.

Digital Learning Platform: Enhancing the Learning Experience

By utilizing the enormous potential of digital technologies, Hitachi MGRM Net is ready to reshape the entire learning experience, replacing passive and rote learning with highly engaging, stimulating experiences. The learning support platform by Hitachi MGRM Net under the M-StarTM suite is a powerful tool ensuring this transformation.

An all-encompassing platform, students of Ladakh can remotely access unlimited high-quality e-Learning material (books, audio, videos, images), take quizzes, participate in interactive scenarios, and watch dynamic videos to enhance comprehension of relevant subjects. Access to remote classrooms greatly helps students who are unable to physically attend the class due to their remote location. Real-time tracking of students’ progress allows teachers to intervene and tailor their instruction to the unique needs of each student. The student-centric adaptive learning ecosystem thus elevates the learning experience, making it fun, meaningful, and memorable.

Hitachi's Enduring Dedication to Improving Education in India

Ladakh is making giant leaps in improving educational outcomes. The UT achieved the highest ever improvement in Performance Grading Index 2020-212 among States/UTs in a single year - a clear indication of the impact of digital initiatives and student-centric reforms.

With the use of digital technologies like Data Analytics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Hitachi India is enabling the holistic development of students in Ladakh and bringing education to the remotest corners of the nation, thus providing equal learning opportunities for every child in India to succeed in life. This aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which emphasizes the importance of inclusive and equitable quality education for all by 20303.
