Hitachi Rail has successfully tested its first battery-powered tram in Florence. The tram runs without the need for expensive overhead cables or other electrified infrastructure. This saves on cost and also maintains the historic city’s visual appeal. The tram can return power to the battery under braking, reducing the amount of energy consumed as well as the environmental impact.
