Hitachi reinvents the wheel for EVs

Hitachi has reinvented the wheel for electric vehicles by squeezing electric motors, inverters, cooling and brakes all within the wheel itself.

Normally the drive system for an electric vehicle is placed on the chassis, limiting battery and/or interior space. With Hitachi’s latest innovation driveshafts and other indirect mechanisms have been eliminated. This reduces energy loss by 30%, increasing range vs existing EVs.

Hitachi has created smaller and lighter high efficiency motors and developed a direct cooling liquid system so the inverters and motors don’t overheat.
