The Hitachi Social Innovation Forum (HSIF) 2017 in Brisbane was held on 3 August at Hilton Hotel. HSIF is a series of events held by Hitachi to introduce its activities through presentations, panel discussions, topical breakout sessions and exhibits to share perspectives and visions as part of its efforts to promote collaborative creation. Its main focus is Social Innovation; the use of innovative technologies and business solutions to address the key trends and challenges facing society.
The event was the second of its kind in the region, following the highly successful debut of HSIF in Sydney last year. The half-day forum included a welcome address by Atsushi Konishi, Managing Director of Hitachi Australia, and opening keynotes from Ms Keiko Yanai, the Consul-General of Japan, and The Right Hon. Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Cr Graham Quirk, amongst others. The keynote address was followed by two speaker sessions focusing on Public Safety and Rail Solutions in Australia.
Guests were also invited to experience the Hitachi showcase consisting of eight key zones; public safety, transportation, agriculture, mining, healthcare, research and development, consumer products and education solutions. Some of the technologies on display included facial recognition and video analytics solutions to optimise safety in cities and communities, train management systems, autonomous haulage systems and data analytics solutions for agriculture.
Through its Social Innovation Business, Hitachi is using advanced Information Technology (IT) and operational technology, combined with extensive manufacturing expertise, to drive social infrastructure innovation that will improve convenience, comfort and safety in people's everyday lives. The event keynote speeches addressed how Hitachi will contribute to resolving issues faced by Australian society and improving Australian’s quality of life, through its Social Innovation Business and leveraging digital technologies.
